the crossing
I’ve done much more composition away from the site and the streets than on any other bike work, and so far it seems to be paying off. Having been for two visits including a workshop, I’d gathered a lot of material as well as determining and filming the route, ie I had the score in place and could work with it precisely. Processing the girls piano playing, my city recordings, our long chats about their lives in Zagreb, I also brought in my ELKA organ and latest noise generating and jitter sampling techniques, which have combined into a musical piece that has this clear but unspoken narrative. However, it’s surprisingly hard to cross that interface between the safety and control in the studio next to random nature of the street, not to mention Pi2 sound card + street acoustic next to studio monitors. No… in fact its tough! (still)
