Pegnitz

In 2020, Nuremberg, one river six tunnels
Last night I arrived to Nürnberg from Berlin, and this morning jumped straight on the train to Pegnitz. It’s the small town up the hill that sits around the source of the River Pegnitz which runs down and through central Nürnberg. I’m here on a week’s research to make that new sonic bike piece for the city I talked about in June. It will be presented in the Songlines 2020 festival in September, part of the city’s bid to be European Capital of Culture in 2025. I had intended to work with individual members of two local community choirs to make this, but COVID has stopped all that so instead I’m exploring the journey the river takes, flowing east to west through the city, conveniently passing through pretty flat terrain with very varied architectural and social spaces alongside. I already determined the route the bikes will take at visit one, so now I’m here to listen, dig into the details and gather material concept.

Day One of research week, to visit the source of this river seems a good place to start.
