The Peace of Augsburg settlement was signed in 1555 markedly ending the bloody fighting between Roman Catholic and Protestant believers. Me being a-religious but brought up Church of England, I am studying the manifestation of the Protestant church through the unswaying conviction of Martin Luther and his work and writing of the Bible and the resulting reformation. It seems like a good solution at the time creating some kind of sense of freedom, but going inside one of the vast protestant churches in the city, I’m shocked how oppressive it feels inside. I’ve visited many churches especially in Europe over the years, just to find a quiet other space to be before playing a concert. But this one I have to walk out of immediately.
